Forming young hearts
in Christ

Our parish catechism programme accompanies children and young people as they grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.

Through age-appropriate teaching, prayer, sacramental preparation and participation in parish life, we help each child build a strong and lasting foundation of faith.

Our aim is not simply to provide religious knowledge, but to help every child develop a personal relationship with Christ, participate meaningfully in Holy Qurbana and grow into a compassionate, responsible and active member of the Church.

UNDERSTANDING CATECHESIS

Learning and living the Catholic faith

The word catechesis means passing on the Christian faith in a clear, faithful and ordered way.

Catechism introduces children to Sacred Scripture, the teachings of the Catholic Church, the sacraments, prayer and the moral life. It does not replace the Bible. Instead, it helps children understand the message of Scripture and recognise how God’s Word speaks to their lives.

Children are encouraged to connect what they learn in the classroom with prayer, family life, Holy Qurbana and service to others. In this way, faith becomes something they understand, celebrate and live.

Our programme supports the whole spiritual development of every child.

Knowing the faith

Learning from Sacred Scripture, the teachings of the Catholic Church and the rich spiritual and liturgical tradition of the Syro-Malabar Church.

Celebrating the faith

Preparing for the sacraments and helping children participate prayerfully and confidently in Holy Qurbana and the liturgical life of the Church.

Living the faith

Encouraging children to practise kindness, forgiveness, responsibility and service in their homes, schools, parish and wider community.

Growing in prayer

Helping children develop a personal relationship with Christ through individual prayer, family prayer and worship with the parish community.

HOME AND PARISH

A partnership with families

Faith formation begins in the home. Parents and guardians have the first and most important role in helping children know God, learn to pray and live according to the Gospel.

The parish catechism programme works in partnership with families, supporting and strengthening the formation already taking place at home.

Within the parish, catechists provide a welcoming environment where children can ask questions, deepen their understanding and form friendships rooted in faith.

Classroom learning is supported by prayer, liturgical celebrations, retreats, charitable activities and opportunities to participate in parish life.

OUR PROGRAMME

Supporting every stage of the journey

Sunday classes

Classes are held during the academic year. Registered families receive the annual calendar, class allocation and safeguarding information by email.

Sacramental preparation

Dedicated preparation is provided for First Holy Communion and Confirmation in partnership with parents and families.

Parents and volunteers

Parents are the first teachers of faith. We welcome suitable trained volunteers who wish to support teaching, administration and special events.
